I wanted to take this opportunity to share a couple of great resources I've come across. First, TPAC is putting on a performance of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other favorites. It is a puppet show and has gotten rave reviews. Tickets are only $14 each (not much more than the movies). There are also a number of "pay as you can" tickets available on the day of the performance. I hope some of you will get to take advantage of this great resource.
If you haven't already (and your child is younger than 5 years old), please sign your child up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program. Locally, it is also known as the Governor's Books from Birth program. This is such a fabulous program and, best of all, it's free! When you sign up, your child will receive a book for each month of his/her life from ages 0-5. We just got my daughters second book in the mail and they are great! They choose new and classic children's literature. The books are high quality and age-appropriate. Enjoying reading and being read to early and often is a key indicator of success later in school. This program can give your child a library of up to 60 books by the time they are 5. And, did I mention it's FREE?!?!?!?!?
Those are a few for now. As I come across other local resources, I will be sure to share them with you. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.
